Calcuating the Edge

The edge is given as the expected casino edge per bet right off the top of a freshly and fairly shuffled pack of cards. The calculations are made based on the tables in Arnold Snyder's Blackbelt in Blackjack, 2nd ed..

Penetrations for 4+ deck games are given by the placement (in 52 card "decks") of the cut card from the bottom of the shoe. For 2 deck games, penetration is given as the percentage of the pack that is dealt out before shuffling. One deck penetrations are defined by the number of rounds dealt to various numbers of players at a table before shuffling. The "Rule of 6" is that the number of rounds dealt is typically 6 minus the number of players at the table, e.g., 4 rounds are dealt between shuffles if there are two active betting spots on the table.

The edge for a given number of decks with standard rules (S17, DOA, noDAS) is given by:
