Weatherwolde Castle in Tujunga has
been saved! New owner asks the Tujunga community to help put the castle
back together again!
Tujunga, CA, November 5, 2005 --
Historic Weatherwolde Castle, which was poised to face the wrecking
ball this year, has been saved! The castle is currently in escrow. The
new owners want to return Weatherwolde to its former glory.
The new owners kindly plea to the
Tujunga community to bring back the historic items salvaged from
Weatherwolde, in hopes that the castle can be accurately restored.
Weatherwolde fell prey to a
developer earlier this year, who demolished outbuildings, old trees and
some of the features of the castle. Then seven hours before
Weatherwolde was to be hit by a bulldozer, three preservation
organizations (Tujunga Historical Society, Crescenta Valley Heritage
and Friends of the Raymond Theatre) banded together to save the castle.
By morning, the day the bulldozers
were to hit the castle, Tujunga residents came out in force, as did
media, police and code enforcement. It was perhaps the largest rally
for a historic structure in the history of Tujunga. The castle was
saved and is now awaiting landmark status.
Weatherwolde will soon have a new
owner, and the hard work of putting Weatherwolde back together again
will begin.
When Weatherwolde was assumed to be
demolished, neighbors and looters removed items from the interior and
exterior of the Weatherwolde. The historic items, which were removed,
were original to the castle.
The new owner has made it clear
that no questions will be asked of those who return the items taken
from Weatherwolde, when assumed the castle would soon be demolished.
"Many of the components are
important to the integrity of the house. I understand why people would
have taken these items at the time, but I would love to see most of
them come home. Just in the last few days, the finial was taken off of
the tower."
Anyone that has information
concerning these items is encouraged to contact the new owners at (818)
767-8848 or weatherwolde@midi-evil.com
Saving Weatherwolde was a positive
step for Tujunga, because in recent years so many of the unique,
esoteric homes have been torn down and replaced by "stucco boxes."
The new owners thank the Tujunga
community and others for their valiant efforts in saving Weatherwolde.
"Now our hope is the community will come together and bring back the
items that were salvaged, which will allow us to accurately restore
Weatherwolde, not only for our family, but for future generations to
enjoy.
